'Bag Lady Extraordinaire'
This April 2008, we bring you a sneak peak into the mind of Jacqueline, founder of the Gin & Jacqie brand in Malaysia. (www.ginjacqie.com) You may think its run by two talented young women, but it's actually the brainchild of one woman. So, here's a whooping cheer to an entrepreneurial lady. Her concept is fun, easy and accessible to the average plain Jane to the high flying executive. To quote a few, Candy Stripe Penny, practical Lisa, Marshmallow and Just Melinda are amongst some of the bags that she offers. From laptop bags, to totes, to casual and travel as well as for mummies, there's certainly one for everyone! Why did you start this business? What was your former job? Did you have any experience in this area previously? Are you very passionate about bags? - I had zero experience
- Learnt the ropes through experience, read up a lot and spoke to tons of people
- Was a passion and also a challenge
Your lines of bags are cleverly designed. Where do you find inspiration for the bags? - I would say it's through travel, and feedback from the people I meet.
- I always aim to design bags that are functional and suited for daily use.
- For example, there's always a lack of space in a woman's handbag, so I created the bag organizer and compartments for that purpose =)
Your designs also have very clever and funky names, how did that come about? - I'd be glad to say they are named after friends
- Friends who have a certain trait, style or fit the profile and practicality I am designing for
What are the season's latest bags? Are they readily available? - The new collection consist of floral prints vinyl coated (mostly accessories)
- Go get your latest gin&jacqie bag from Czip Lee, Isetan or on the website: www.ginjacqie.com =)
Do you consider your bags in the affordable or the pricey range? Who are your bags targeted to? - For ladies on the go, who enjoy life and love colours!
- The bags can be carried by women of any age
Do you design for men as well? Why did you choose to work in synergy with Czip Lee, Bangsar? - Czip Lee is a great partner to work with simply because Czip Lee is forward thinking, they have great ideas and concept for books and stationery
- They also cater to all people regardless of age
- And gin&jacqie is pleased to provide an additional product to their extensive range of products!
Do customers get discounts if they buy from Czip Lee or if they buy on the gin&jacqie website? - For Czip Lee, they will have their own promotion, so don't worry-you'd certainly have good sales to look forward to
- Otherwise, you can also check out the www.ginjacqie.com website for the sales & promotion page where discounts are always offered
What is your hobby? How do you relax? If you had three words to summarize yourself, what would it be? If you had three words to summarize your brand, what would it be? Check out gin&jacqie at Czip Lee Bangsar today! (Discounts for CzipCard members! =)) Labels: 2008, ginjacqie

7 stages of Moleskine
Stage 1: Moleskine Pre-ownership The people who you look up to have one with them at all times. You cannot understand it. But you can't deny it looks cool. You look for alternatives. There are none. If only you had a good enough reason to buy one. Like: I'm a ____________ (writer, artist, musician, designer, thinker, etc. ) and all ____________ have one. Stage 2: Moleskine Selection Hard cover or soft cover? Reporter or classic? Large or small? Dairy, which one? Cahiers? Sketchbook with thicker paper? Watercolour Notebook with even thicker paper? Choosing the right moleskine for you is a difficult process. But with time and careful practice, you will find 'the one' Stage 3: Moleskine Community You're now part of something bigger than yourself. A culture. A club. Your thoughts are suddenly more valuable, so are the things you say. Even your blogging has improved. When you see another moleskine owner, you give each other a nod of approval. Good thing she doesn't know that you haven't written a word yet. Stage 4: Starting a Moleskine You peel off the thin plastic protection film. The crackling sound fills you with excitement. You feel the oilskin cover for the first time. You snap open the elastic band a flip through the pages. your future flashes before your eyes. Your dreams waiting to burst out onto the blank pages. You bookmark an empty page, and snap the moleskine shut again. And you wait for the right moment to start. Stage 5: Moleskine History In the pocket of your new moleskine is a small leaflet that brings you into the world o moleskine and shares it's legendary story from it's Italian roots, the the plain notebook you now hole in your hands. You are the next part of that history. Stage 6: Moleskine Inspiration The pages are too perfect. It's difficult to start. "what shall I write or draw" at first there is no answer. And then, inspiration strikes. It happens more quickly for some, and slowly for others. But once inspiration strikes. You start taking notes..and you never look back. Stage 7: Moleskine Legacy. Finishing a moleskine feels you with a sense of satisfaction but it also makes you feel vulnerable, naked. Suddenly your ideas don't have a home. The good thing is, that wherever you are, you know you can pick up a moleskine, a notebook of the exact same quality and size from any good book or stationary store. Once you become part of the moleskine story, it's hard to imagine using any other notebook. Labels: 2008, Moleskine
Bangsar 101
Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is a melting pot of businesses, from high end restaurants, to coffee shops, affordable but trendy clothing shops to designer clothing, and best of all - the jack of all trades, CzipLee Bangsar which meets your stationery and book needs. Bangsar Baru, namely the Telawi area is the pulse of the neighbourhood that has progressed so much, from the days of civil servants quarters and also rubber estates. No longer do you have the sleepy town mentality, but once you step into Bangsar - it is a literal central business district (CBD). Think Siam Square of Bangkok. Think the Rocks of Sydney. Whether it is your banking needs (you have almost four major banks to choose from), or whether it is a fashion accessory that you desire, to even designer wear, or your local grocery shopping, Bangsar has something for everyone. Just remember to bring the cash and the cards, lest you overspend!
Landmarks of Bangsar, today would be Bangsar Village and Bangsar Village II, which are actually the newest development in the township. Delicious, the restaurant is always brimming with people, from 10 am - 12 midnight on a daily basis. Another thriving hotspot would be the Village Grocers which serves up the best vegetable and fruit produce. And of course that books/stationery store with that weird name! =) Other than that, look out for the pasar malam that is held every Sunday night. You can get local delicacies such as murtabaks, the sweetish sourish asam laksa, to the Taiwanese dumpling lady with her chive stuffed meat dumplings. Depending on your preference for taste and experience, we will be exploring different facets of Bangsar in the next few postings, so do keep tuned for more updates! Labels: 101, 2008, Bangsar
