Saturday Nights @ CzipLee

For the past Saturday nights, we at CzipLee and the patrons of Bangsar have been treated to a very special after hours performance by this very talented group of artists. They are from the Bantus Capoeira Malaysia! They are not just any normal artists, they are CAPOEIRA artists!

Capoeira is a Brazilian fight-dance, game, and martial art created by enslaved Africans during the 19th Century [1] Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the centre of the circle. The game is marked by fluid acrobatic play, feints, subterfuge, and extensive use of groundwork, as well as sweeps, kicks, and headbutts. Less frequently, elbow-strikes, slaps, punches, and body-throws are used. Technique and strategy are the key elements to playing a good game. Capoeira has three main styles, known as "regional", "Angola", and the less-well defined "contemporanea". (Source: WIKI of course!)

What happened in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aka Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone?

potter-talking-to-Hermione**

How would you like living with a group of horrible relatives after your parents died? And not to mention finding out that everything those relatives told you were lies?

Harry Potter is a young boy who was forced to live at his aunt's and uncle's house after his parents died. He was told by them that his parents were killed in a car crash, but as the story unfolds, the truth slowly unravels itself!

One day Harry Potter discovers that he is a wizard, and was sent to Hogwarts, a school especially for wizards and witches, located far from London. One cool thing about going to Hogwarts was this invisible train platform: Platform Nine and three-quarters!!

cziplee-book-review

There, he learns more about his family, and his forbidden past and the whole history of ancient wizards and witches. He was brought into another world where magic exists along with spells and potions.

He also befriends Ron Weasley, the boy with flaming red hair and a muggle-born witch, Hermione. With his new powers he saves his life and a very precious stone that is hidden beneath Hogwartss castle walls: The Philosopher's Stone. With his new friends he faced his worst enemy, Draco Malfoy and his mean Potions teacher Professor Snape.

In the end, he discovers the true ability of his wizarding powers, along with the power of friendship.

Think Green!

This Saturday, Malaysia celebrates World Environment Day 2007 with a host of events at FRIM. Here's the list:
Meet the new version of me: You can call me CzipF-O-EKid! =)

foekid

In view of that, I (CzipKid) have picked my top-10 base on a list done by The Star newspaper (Malaysia):

cansorganic_boxrecycling_binflower

1. Live simply
Every product we use, whether it’s a paper cup, dress or car, leaves an ecological footprint. Think about living with less, so as to tread lighter on Earth.

2. Think before you throw
Before discarding something, first consider how it can be reused.
3. Say no to flyers
Decline or return promotional pamphlets distributed at public places if you’re not interested in what’s on offer. Refuse junk mail if you don’t want to read it.

4. Go paper-less
Send e-cards and emails rather than letters, memos and cards. The pulp and paper industry is the world's fifth largest industrial consumer of energy and uses more water to produce a tonne of product than any other business.
5. Buy in bulk
Avoid products packed individually or for single use, such as beverage sachets or biscuits in small packs. Those foils are not recycled, and so add to waste heaps.

6. Go for fresh
Why buy fruit juices in cartons and create waste? Recycling aseptic packaging, which is made of 75% paper, 20% polyethylene and 5% aluminium foil, uses up lots of water and energy. Furthermore, current collection for recycling is poor. Juice fresh fruits instead. It will be free of sweeteners, colourings, preservatives – and trash.

7. Say 'No' to plastic bags
They do not degrade, mar the landscape and clog up rivers and seas. Plastics are derived from petroleum, so producing them emits greenhouse gases, too. Decline a plastic bag if your purchase is small and easy to carry. Try not to accumulate any new plastic bags for a week; you will see that it is not that difficult.

8. Bring a bag
Keep cloth bags in your car so they are always at hand should you decide to go shopping or marketing.

9. Use them again
Those plastic bags used to pack vegetables in supermarkets can be reused. Don't try to remove the price sticker as this will tear the flimsy bags. Turn them inside out instead.

10. Don't add to waste heaps
Separate paper, plastics, metals, glass and aseptic carton for recycling. If you cannot drop them off at recycling centres, leave them outside for the garbage collector. Recycling saves the landscape from dumps, reduces usage of energy and raw materials, and prevents emissions of methane.

To read the full article, visit The Star.

For more recycling ideas or how you can support or work for the environment, simply put just:

So do your part today, when you come into CzipLee Books & Stationery - if you can make do without the plastic bags, just say NO! We are doing our bit to reduce the plastics!
"You look at that river gently flowing by. You notice the leaves rustling with
the wind. You hear the birds; you hear the tree frogs. In the distance you hear
a cow. You feel the grass. The mud gives a little bit on the river bank. It's
quiet; it's peaceful. And all of a sudden, it's a gear shift inside you. And
it's like taking a deep breath and going, "Oh yeah, I forgot about this."

CzipLand*

Once upon a time, we had this little dream of an enchanted land of books and stationery. Initially, we thought of this:

czipland1

then we came up with the kid:

czipkid sticker

who has since evolved into a few different versions with his latest incarnation as:

czip-potter

but somewhere in between, CzipKid found his paradise:

CzipLandcolour

Welcome to CzipLand, your paradise of books and stationery! A land lost in a time not so long ago when books and stationery were afforded no respect by those who lived their whole lives in a book-less and stationery-less world; except by a selected few who dreamed of a Paradise, a place so wonderful that no page is left unturned and no ink is left too dry! Check back for Adventures in CzipLand!

Meanwhile, you can pop by our version of CzipLand in
Kajang and Bangsar or see it via the web!

"And me, I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not some place you can look for, 'cause it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something, and if you find that moment... it lasts forever..." -The Beach-

Football Crazy!

Just when we thought that the football crazy-ness is dying down with the end of the European leagues, especially the EPL! We are treated to a real gem of a game tonight (tomorrow morning Malaysian time) to a so-called-friendly:
England vs Brazil in a very old new Wembley!

rooney_by_artmakerronny_by_artmaker

(Wayne Rooney's suspended for the game! But we couldn't resist the cute Rooney by artmaker - who else?)

Of course the Spanish La Liga is heading towards a very exciting end. It's still anybody's league, but we'll just have to wait a bit longer now to see who actually wins it. Barcelona? Early season favourites; Real Madrid? With a David Beckham swansong? or Sevilla? Sneaking in and heading towards a treble?!

So with tonights game in mind, here's a list of some soccer-related books that CzipLee Books & Stationery stocks:

A Season On The Brink

M*nU*dWR

PelePele2

CH

So if you are already suffering from withdrawal symptoms with the end of the soccer leagues, you can always pick up any of these books or the rest of the selection available in CzipLee (while stocks lasts of course!).

p.s. CzipLee Bangsar and CzipLee Kajang will be close for the next 2 days (Saturday, 2 June till Sunday, 3 June 2007) in conjunction with the birthday of DYMM SPB Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the Malaysian king). Business will resume as normal on Monday, 4 June 2007!

Rainy listings...

And so its been raining non-stop today. Rainy days are not fun because it deters the crowd, keep people away from our stores and makes us all feel lazy. =( What more with today being Monday! It has definitely been a very lazy Monday!

Most times, even though its raining, some of us would do whatever it takes to spend our day out...

Rain

But we can't. So to keep ourselves entertained today, we came up with a list of things one can do on a rainy day and during this school holidays too! Check out our previous to-do-list too!

1. The standard deal: Indoor games, board games etc.
But don't just settle for the normal games: chess, checkers, UNO, Scrabble etc...for new twists to board games, try this whole range of
games we've brought in by Gamewright, Outset Media and Baffle Gab (Our new stock arrive last week, so full details up soon!)

Current favourites would be a toss-up between Luck of the Draw and Pick Two Deluxe.

luck_of_the_draw

Luck of the Draw is a game for the Artistically Challenged.
Think you're the next Picasso? or the next
Artmaker? Can't draw a stick figure to save your life? Either way, you'll love playing this off-the-wall party game where you don't have to be the first artist to win. First scramble to scribble a mini masterpiece in 45 seconds. Then vote on whose drawing best fits one of the 100 creative categories.

Will yours be the neatest? The sluggliest? The most likely to hang on a refrigerator? Win the most votes and you've got the Luck of the Draw! Sure to reinforce language and vocabulary development, creativity and imagination. For ages 10 to 98 and for 4 to 8 players, your whole household can join in the fun too!

pick_two_layout

Pick Two Deluxe is the always-changing, ever-rearranging crossword game. Players draw tiles, building their own personal crosswords as fast as they can. Whenever players use all their letters they yell "Pick Two" and everyone draws two more tiles.
The catch? These tiles must now be added to your crossword.
The best part? You can always change your crossword by rearranging letters and even words to use up your tiles. When the centre pile of tiles is gone, the first one done wins the round.
What makes PickTwo Deluxe so good?
It's fast, it's exciting, and it's a game where everyone is playing at the same time. There is none of this sitting around watching someone think about what word to play next.
For ages 8 to 98! Up to 8 players.
Just think Scrabble but no more waiting for your turns!

We have also got the whole Professor Noggin's card games series:

pn-all new-boxandcard

An award-winning series, each game in the Professor Noggin's series combines trivia, true/false, and multiple choice questions using 30 professionally illustrated cards and a special three-numbered dice in each game. Players learn unusual facts on topics like insects, reptiles and amphibians, ocean life, dinosaurs, science, inventions and wildlife. Through the games, please players enhance their communication skills and knowledge, all while having fun!

Flash your CzipCard to enjoy some discounts when you purchase any of the games. If you have not got a card yet, find out how you can get one here!

2. Jump over or in mud puddles.
calvin&hobbesmud

3. Dance in the rain.

(For #2 and #3: Kids, please ask for your parent's permission first!)

4. Paint a picture of a rainbow or make one with modelling clay:

rainbow

Here's a trivia for you: True or False? A rainbow has 6 colors. If you said false, you are correct! A rainbow is made up of a whole continuum of colors.

5. Have an indoor picnic. Throw a blanket on the floor and break out the sandwiches and cheese.

picnic

Last but not the least:
Make a list of all the things that make you smile, laugh, and cry.

smile

Things that make us smile:

Laugh
Things that make us laugh:
Very happy and very satisfied customers.

New year, new things?

We had a good year in 2006 with the opening of our flagship store. With CzipLee Bangsar, we were able to bring in more books, stationery, premiums and crafts as compared to what we've always had in CzipLee Kajang. But don't worry Kajangites, we have not forgotten you!

Just keep looking out for more happenings @CzipLee Kajang(and Bangsar), huh? =)

2006 also saw the launch of our very own website and blog! And to our surprise, they have been warmly welcome by you! (Based on Google Analytics, of course!) So with all this, it brings us to the new year, 2007. What and how then can we beat the high of 2006?

We've got a whole lot of things up our sleeves and if you want to help us out just feel free to leave us some comments! So stay tune for them!

And as always, we will stick to our tagline:

'Meeting Your Needs!'

Welcome to 2007 @CzipLee!

Introducing.....CzipKid!

And that little boy is Me! =) Hi everyone! They all call me Kid, CzipKid. This is my world and welcome to CzipLee, the enchanted kingdom of books and stationery! Many people have asked me how to actually pronounce my name, well guess what?! I am going to share with you how my name is pronounced.

It's like French! Silence the C and just pronounce Z-I-P. It works the same for CzipKid, CzipLee and anything Czip. So, CzipLee is pronounced as Z-I-P Lee.

Have fun! Next up, I will let you know how I actually came to be. Nope, it's not the big bang! Just a big splat of INK! Stay tune, ya?! =)
