August: Rush, Olympics & Passing the Torch

This is part our monthly newsletters. If you missed the previous ones, check them out here!

August Rush. Not the movie (a really good one!) but in every sense of the word - August has literally whizzed us by. We have been dazzled and amazed by the feats of China, as they played host to the Beijing Olympics 2008. Finally, another Asian nation which has been bestowed the honour of hosting the world’s greatest sporting event.

oly2

The good news does not stop there as our very own home grown Chong Wei  won Malaysia it's first silver medal in 12 years. Though he did not beat the Chinese stronghold, Lin Dan, it's still a feat to be celebrated. We are proud of you!

As the torch of the Olympics passed on to London for the 2012 Games. Many questions how London would be able to outdo China in their efforts to "wow" the world. It's a  phenomenon of sorts. As an Asian heritage company, we feel so proud that China or Asia  can host world class standard events.

As we talk about the passing of torch, it brings us back to that of Cziplee as a business. Started 37 years ago by an entrepreneur, who only had a loan of
RM 2,000 from his mother to begin his little tuck shop, CzipLee has grown leaps and bounds through sheer hard work of family, support from the community (yes, that means you!=)) and continuity in the generations forward to continue the good work.

Cziplee believes in preserving tradition, yet forging ahead in adapting to times. That's why we are working on many other means to reach out and satisfy our clients. From our up and coming, CzipLee Lite an online concept store, to our newly set up of a one stop printing centre in Bangsar which many have been requesting for - we strive to do what our founding father did best. Meeting the needs of the community.

And meet your needs we definitely will. Especially this month of August, as we celebrate Malaysia's 51 first anniversary of independence. Cziplee will be running some exciting promotions throughout the stores for as long as we can. Stay tune for updates via our twitter or our blog!

Also, did we tell you that it's almost time to rid your 2008 diaries? Moleskine 2009 diaries hits the store early September and what better way to look forward to another new year than with a new Moleskine diary! With 19 models to choose from and 1 very Special limited edition only available in CzipLee. There will definitely be diary for everyone! A sneak peek:

Diaries2009_A4POP_final

Till then, we've enjoyed this August rush and we are all gearing up for September. Are you?

To our fellow Malaysians, have a great Merdeka weekend!

July: F-A-C-E-L-I-F-T & Others

FACELIFT copy(1)

June was a quiet month from us on the web-front but it was one of the more exciting month's in-store!

1) Newsletter blast

We are proud to say we have built up a database of more than 4,000 members; and we're at long last, kicking off our CzipNews blast to keep all of you informed on our promotions, updates and more.

Keeping in touch with you is what we would like to do, so do share with us your emails and comments or tell your friends to subscribe to our mailing list - even though they may be overseas. You never know, we might just be able to arrange for that cute stationery, that Moleskine or anything to be delivered or purchased by your friend overseas!

Note: Emails were obtained with members consent through the CzipCard application.

You can subscribe or unsubscribe to our mailing list here. And send us your emails through our contact form here.

2) Nip Tucking Kajang & Bangsar

We have had add-on(s) to both stores for more products! We have been giving Kajang a face-lift for a while now and we're picking up the pace with a major overhaul for one of the key areas in the store (one that would make the guys from Nip/Tuck proud!). Let's just say after a decade or so Kajang was due for a newer look! Be patient, we are doing it in stages! Also, Kajang gets a new outlook too. Here the work in progress:

 KJG

3) We have something NEW...coming up @ Bangsar

We created space in Bangsar for an exciting and what we consider a very integral component to the CzipLee tag-line of "Meeting Your Needs". This will be revealed by end of July! So check back this space!

4) Books@Bangsar (our 1st floor reorganised to serve you better)

Books@Bangsar (our first floor-and yes, we're not all about the stationery! =)) was revamped this past week. The team did a great job re-organising the place and in the next few weeks, we'll be putting up a few interesting boosters on the website and in-store to further enhance your experience at CzipLee!

5) Upgrades on www.cziplee.com

CzipLee.com is almost 2 now and we have seen a lot of upgrades to our beloved website. July marks the beginning of a new phase on our website and we can't wait to share with you all these new things.

We are still as excited as when we first sat down to conceptualise this website. Thanks to your constant support and the emails you guys have been sending in, we are ready to take it on to another new level.

To keep the expectations bearable, it's not anything too major, too quickly. Like all good things in life, we're going to take it slow and get it right.

6) We turned the big 4-0!

We've hit the big 4-0! And we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a blast internally, with our long lasting suppliers and business partners. It's a joy to grow old, gracefully yet staying young and relevant to you guys! Watch our for some specials soon!

7) Quick promo for July: Lamy

Just to highlight also that the Lamy Noto promotion is still on-going! If you have not seen it or you missed out on it, here is the pitch!

So that's July from us for now, we'll update again soon!

Till then,

March brings you: 101's, softies, travel notes, beautiful bags & birthday wishes!

Dear friends,

Hope this letter finds you well.

As we had mentioned before, January and February are usually months of adjustments to the new year. You have your holidays-the new year, Chinese New Year, the Valentine's day special and basically-it feels like it's not really full swing.

Come March 2008 (which is now), things are getting "hot" in here. What's great is that CzipLee is proud to bring you some really good stuff that you might consider spending some time to browse through, or to lighten that heavy pocket!

101

First off, we have got some 101's happening in our blog itself. We introduced Kajang 101 last month and this month: Bangsar 101 which basically introduces the two bases of the CzipLee business. If you have always wanted to learn more about where to eat, shop, what to do-what people are like in these neighbourhoods-this is a good place to check out the crowd, without having to physically get there yourself!

Soft Moleskines

If you are into all things flexible, whether it's the pretzels you can contort your body into during yoga, or just flexible working hours - get ready for what Moleskine has come up with: Moleskines Soft Cover Notebooks or in short, Softies! These soft sturdy notebooks can adapt to the movement of the body and fit comfortably in pockets. It is also thread-bound on that ever reliable acid free paper, with expandable pockets and elasic closure. A purrrrfect notebook that can jive to your every move and need, literally!

Apart from the Softies, Moleskine has also come up with more new Cities for its Moleskine City line-up that will certainly get your globe trekking instincts to kick in. Be your own writer, producer and editor with the City NoteBooks that will detail every moment of your travel for the new destinations: Florence, Venice, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal and Seattle.

Besides being useful for jotting down your own notes of the best places to eat, drink and be merry - the City NoteBooks also come complete with maps showing the layout of the city alongside with the very useful metro system and list of stations.

Look out for a special feature on Moleskine this month!

G & J Bags

Something else to look forward also to a whole new range of practical accessories that CzipLee is introducing. Always ever ready to spot and to work with independent and budding entrepeneurs, CzipLee is proud to bring you the gin & jacqie (g&j) range of very functional bags. Whether it's a gym tote that you require, or the huge bag you require for the baby (babies), or even a laptop bag, or the professional range - g&j has a diverse offering of bags, with affordable price tags to complete the package with.

Be sure to check out part of the g&j range (e.g. laptop covers, passport holders, weave me pencil case, bag organisers, pouches and many more) in CzipLee Bangsar. Once you own one, you'll come back and refer your friends for more! There will be more gin & jacqie in our upcoming posts too! Stay tune!

March also brings a very special Birthday shoutout to our friends at Smidapaper! Happy 2nd Birthday to the Smidapaper gang! It has been fun working with you guys and we look forward to more Smidapaper in time to come!

Check out what Smidapaper offers. Part of their selection of scrapbook materials are available at CzipLee Bangsar for sale. If you are a first timer on this, don't worry! Traditions.

Dear friends of CzipLee,

It's February already! January seems to have just flown by. Just like you, we've been recuperating and restructuring after a superbly busy Year End. Getting all the kids stocked up and ready for school, is an event as big as Christmas and New Year for us.

We love to see all the little ones light up, with their new matching pens and pencils and school books. We've even spotted some 'not so little ones', stock up some matching pens for themselves.
All that makes February our favourite month. We call it our New Year. So Happy New Year to us, heh? =)

New Year, New Beginnings and Enduring Traditions.

This year promises to be a bit special, CzipLee turns 40 this year! With Chinese New Year a couple of days away, we thought we start off 2008 with some Traditions.

Ellen Goodman, the American journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist was quoted:

"Traditions are the guideposts driven deep in our subconcious minds. The most powerful ones are those we can't even describe aren't even aware of."

Traditions...our guideposts. That got us thinking of somethings old...hmmm:

Early Years

Neon Years

And some CzipLee traditions:

1. Familairity with customers. Building long-lasting relationships with YOU!
2. Meeting your needs. We are here to do so, tell us what you want or need and we will source to the ends of the earth (pun intended!) to bring in what you want and what/when we can.
3. Giving you that 'CzipLee Experience'. Addressing special requests and helping you get what you want even if it has nothing to do with us!
4 Family-styled service. Making you feel right at home when you come by our stores.
5. Best prices. Whenever we can. =)

At times, we tend to forget our traditions and what they mean to us. We will be first to admit our shortcomings. We may not have always lived up to our traditions and we are sorry for that. We may have also created new ways/standards/views and though these are good but we know traditions should never be disregarded!

Churchill once said: "A love of tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril, but the new view must come, the world must roll forward!"

New Traditions

Our goal this year is to strive to achieve that perfect balance between the old and the new. To spur on with foundations that has been built on traditions and of course to make new traditions.

1.Closing on Sundays during most part of the year.
We are dedicating Sundays to God and family.
2.You are at this very moment part of one of our newest traditions, which is greeting you with a letter each month. Feel free to use the comments below to greet one another, and spread the festive cheer.

We have some pretty cool ideas that we will be trying this year both online and in-store(s) so keep checking back here for updates. Your comments on how things work has been useful for us.
Most have been through our humble enquiry form, we would like to invite you to comment on our blog too. Do it now? =)

Happy New Year Friends!
