Manga Fever!

minx_character

We have got some great Manga titles from Minx books.

Minx is part of the DC Comics family.

DC Comics, if you do not already know, is one of the world's largest comic publisher! They have introduced a large number of well-known characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and their teammates in the Justice League, who are among the medium's most popular and influential.

Now, they bring us the Minx line, aimed at teenage girls, following the tried and tested “young woman finding herself” formula.

It does the whole genre so well, that all of us enjoyed reading the whole series (even the guys in the Czip team!).

Here is the current line-up of what we have:

These books are printed and distributed locally so they are really affordable! Retails at only RM 16.90! Now that's C-H-E-A-P!

Crash

Flying CupidKid with CRASH potential:

cupidkid

cupidkidinfull
"you think you know who you are. you have no idea."

I love taglines, movie taglines. It allows you to intepret your own version of the movie before you watch it. Its effective, more so than the title of course.

Crash, the Oscar-winning movie had a few of this running. The title by itself didn't really appeal to me but when I read the taglines on IMDB, I was sold. The forementioned was my favourite.

I suppose with CzipKid, we (the CzipLee crew) didn't really know where we were heading with it. A family-owned books and stationery business with a cartoon character as its mascot? Hahhahahaha!
Well, being Chinese we were thinking more of an animal so that we could identify with its traits and character...we even narrowed down to 2: a tortoise or a tiger!

Somehow, CzipKid's creator, the artist known as
Ming or the Artmaker created a character that squashed all animal instincts!

It started with
this and then it became manga before turning up in pen. When we saw the final piece, we knew we had to go with it.

But somehow, with the kid, we thought we knew who he is or who/where he will be. But right now, we just don't know! He's grown from just on paper to a life-size cut-out that appears in most events that CzipLee takes part.

And then there's CzipKid's evolution on the website:

So the BIG question is: Where to next for CzipKid? Yes, we've got the whole CzipLand going but really, we don't know...don't know who the kid really is or who he can be. Why don't you tell us?

PS: I tell you what, being Valentine's Day and all, feel free to use CupidKid in your blog or publication. I would appreciate an attribution back to this post or this website! (but of course it's not compulsory :)) Also, don't forget to check out CzipKid's creator's site too!

Manga 2.1

Someone once said that, "God must be a painter because He gave us so many colours!"
On that cue of using what we are given, colours were added to Manga-me:

Artist notes:

For the colour scheme I think i was influenced alot by the recent LOTR movies. In hindsight The colour looks a bit too dull. I would have continued in this direction. But together with the Great Folks at CzipLee, we decided we wanted something more appealing to a wider audience. This might capture a generation of LOTR fans. But CzipLee was looking for better.

So once again, it's back to the drawing board. Show them thee drawing board!

2.0: The Manga Version

And so, the artist gave me a cool new makeover...i turn Manga-like:

the blackandwhite one:

Artist Notes:

I started by doing a lot of pages of sketches to loosen up. I drew characters I knew. I drew all the icons: Calvin. Snoopy. Bone.
Then I drew and drew...well I just filled up pages till I felt I was loose enough.
Next I took a good look at the Cziplee Logo. Czipkid would have to connect some way with the logo. I used a chinese brush pen to get a similar line quality.
Then *BLAM*! One cute head, then bows and arrows. And i'm satisfied.
In the end that drawing had the essence, but it was too roughly drawn and too fierce..
With that taken into acount. I tightened up the drawing and made this guy happier a bit. And played with the proportions. And that is how this version on Manga CzipKid came about.

Next: Manga CzipKid in colour!
