All about LOVE!

It has been a wonderful month off from the store, celebrating Christmas, the New Year then now, Chinese New Year. From the turkeys to the presents. To the lovely homemade repertoire from aunts and grandmas alike, to the mouthwatering baked goods (personal favourite: Kuih Karpet aka Love Letters) that seems to be a regular fixture in every household, it has truly been a wonderful occasion for all! Not forgetting the many "Ang Pows" (red packets) collected and winnings from the gambling table for the lucky few, this Chinese New Year certainly makes for a great transition to one of my all time favourites: Valentine's Day!
Last year, I showed some Crashing potential. This year, The Remix:
I have been scouring both stores for some Valentine's Day gift ideas. Here's what I found at CzipLee:

Fall in love with a book this Valentine's...=)

Activity 1: Shape that Dough!
Suited for kids: 4 - 8 years old Time needed: 2 hours Recommended because: Kids get to mix, model, cook and paint in this "pau ka liao" (do-it-all) activity They can easily make shapes such as: stars, duck, faces, ladybirds, letters and others Dough Making You need: - water (200 ml) - flour (300 g) - salt (300 g) - oil (2 table spoon) - rolling pin/ cylindrical item
1) First, mix the flour and salt together in a bowl 2) Then, slowly add in the oil and mould the dough 3) Add in water as the consistency starts to dry up 4) Pat all ingredients into a ball, with surface being smooth 5) Then, proceed to roll it out with a rolling pin/ or any other cylindrical items 6) If the dough gets sticky, you can sprinkle on some flour to smoothen it out 7) Once you're ready to roll, you can proceed to make various shapes (adapt from items in your house – easiest would be jelly moulds and cookie cutters!) Bake those shapes! You need: - microwave/oven - tray (heat proof) 1) Once shapes done, you can proceed to baking the shapes 2) Some tips: if shapes are big, they will take longer to cook, and if they are delicate, it can easily break, so keep those shapes small and chunky 3) Bake the shapes for 20 minutes (180 Celsius/ 350 Fahrenheit) 4) After that, let the shapes cool for awhile ( 5 - 10 minutes) Painting & Decorating: You need: poster paint acrylics PVA glue You can now paint with poster or acrylic paint Try mixing a little PVA glue with the paint ( 1 part PVA, 2 parts paint) and this will make it tough and shiny Adapted from: The Rainy Day Book by Jane Bull, Dorling Kindersley Book (ISBN 9780751368406)(available at Cziplee, Bangsar) Note: All art supplies (such as paint, acrylics and PVA glue) available at Czipleetechnorati tags: fun with dough ,shape mix play ,dough, fun activity, kids, bangsar ,czipleeAdd to: blinklist del.cio.us digg yahoo!Labels: crafts, school holidays

Activity 3: Do it yourself "Posh Pegs"

First, fill a small dish/paper plate with PVA glue.
Next, using the brush for the PVA glue - slather it on the pegs.
Then, roll those sticky pegs in glitter You can separately get various colours of glitter, plonk them in various paper plates for kids to easily dip in.Use extra glue or glitter if pegs are not completely covered.
Next, let those clips dry (don't put it near any paper, lest it sticks!)
