All about LOVE!

instore with czipkid

It has been a wonderful month off from the store, celebrating Christmas, the New Year then now, Chinese New Year. From the turkeys to the presents. To the lovely homemade repertoire from aunts and grandmas alike, to the mouthwatering baked goods (personal favourite: Kuih Karpet aka Love Letters) that seems to be a regular fixture in every household, it has truly been a wonderful occasion for all!

Not forgetting the many "Ang Pows" (red packets) collected and winnings from the gambling table for the lucky few, this Chinese New Year certainly makes for a great transition to one of my all time favourites: Valentine's Day!

Last year, I showed some
Crashing potential. This year, The Remix:

I have been scouring both stores for some Valentine's Day gift ideas. Here's what I found at CzipLee:

Fall in love with a book this Valentine's...=)

Holiday Fun - 3 fun activities for kids!

If you're running out of ideas to keep the kids occupied this school holidays, it's time to get some activities lined up for the kids lest they spend time being vegetative in front of the TV.

Here are some quick fix activities to be done with kids (ranging from 4 - 12 years old).

Activity 1: Shape that Dough!

Activity 2: Ribbons & all things pretty!

Activity 3: Do it yourself "Posh Pegs"

Mind you, we've cleverly adapted this from books found in CzipLee as well as some of our own ideas, and suited it to your needs. So, we've taken time to pick activities which are simple, easy to execute and - ahem, failure proof and fool proof!

Best of all: Mention any of these activities for kids (from August 23 - September 3, 2006) at our check out counters, and you'll get a mystery gift from us (limited to the first 30 customers)

Activity 1: Shape that Dough!

Suited for kids: 4 - 8 years old
Time needed: 2 hours
Recommended because:
Kids get to mix, model, cook and paint in this "pau ka liao" (do-it-all) activity
They can easily make shapes such as: stars, duck, faces, ladybirds, letters and others

Dough Making
You need:
- water (200 ml)
- flour (300 g)
- salt (300 g)
- oil (2 table spoon)
- rolling pin/ cylindrical item

1) First, mix the flour and salt together in a bowl
2) Then, slowly add in the oil and mould the dough
3) Add in water as the consistency starts to dry up
4) Pat all ingredients into a ball, with surface being smooth
5) Then, proceed to roll it out with a rolling pin/ or any other cylindrical items
6) If the dough gets sticky, you can sprinkle on some flour to smoothen it out
7) Once you're ready to roll, you can proceed to make various shapes (adapt from items in your
house – easiest would be jelly moulds and cookie cutters!)

Bake those shapes!
You need:
- microwave/oven
- tray (heat proof)
1) Once shapes done, you can proceed to baking the shapes
2) Some tips: if shapes are big, they will take longer to cook, and if they are delicate, it can
easily break, so keep those shapes small and chunky
3) Bake the shapes for 20 minutes (180 Celsius/ 350 Fahrenheit)
4) After that, let the shapes cool for awhile ( 5 - 10 minutes)

Painting & Decorating:
You need:

poster paint
acrylics
PVA glue
You can now paint with poster or acrylic paint
Try mixing a little PVA glue with the paint ( 1 part PVA, 2 parts paint) and this will make it tough and shiny

Note: All art supplies (such as paint, acrylics and PVA glue) available at Cziplee

Activity 2: Ribbons & all things pretty!

Suited for kids: 4 - 12 years old (young kids & older girls, don't think the boys would be interested!)
Time needed: 1 hour
Recommended because: Kids get to dress up in pretty bows and flowers
You need: Shiny long ribbons (plastic) Paper ribbons Cloth ribbons Twist ties Glittering glue Buttons Safety pin Gold dust
Instructions:

Using paper ribbons, unfold it and combine it with plastic ribbons, cloth
ribbons (or individually to make simple bows)

Then, combine it together
- by keeping the core steady using a twist tie.

You can add in some
sparkles using glitter glue, sew on some buttons or sprinkle on some gold dust.

Experiment it with it, you should get yourself some interesting designs
and colours Combine it all together and attach a safety pin to the bow
tie/ribbon

Activity 3: Do it yourself "Posh Pegs"

Suited for kids: 4 - 10 years old
Time needed: 1 hour
Recommended because: Kids get to glamorize themselves with DIY jewelery It's a perfect necklace or crown when you clip the pegs on a ribbon, or a hard card (like Jughead's crown)
You need: Pegs Big brush PVA glue Plastic ribbon/ hard textured card A big bottle of glitter
Instructions:

First, fill a small dish/paper plate with PVA glue.

Next, using the brush for the PVA glue - slather it on the pegs.

Then, roll those sticky pegs in glitter You can separately get various colours of glitter,
plonk them in various paper plates for kids to easily dip
in.Use extra glue or glitter if pegs are not completely
covered.

Next, let those clips dry (don't put it near any paper, lest it
sticks!)

Finally, clip it on a ribbon (and voila! You have a
necklace!) Or, if you feel like
a king or a queen, clip those pegs on a
strip of hard textured card to make a posh- peg crown (but make sure you staple
the ends of the cards to make it a comfortable fit for your head before you clip
the pegs on!)

Note: All items above can be obtained from Cziplee Bangsar. (Except Pegs!)
