    Inspiring ideas for 425 years
2009 is a year of anniversaries for Cambridge University Press as it celebrates 425 years of continuous publishing, and 475 years since King Henry VIII granted the ‘Letters Patent’, allowing the Press to print ‘all manner of books’. In 2009 the University of Cambridge also celebrates the 800th anniversary of its founding.

Both anniversaries will be celebrated in many ways throughout this year, with concerts, theatre and dance performances, publications, discussions, debates and public lectures.

The anniversaries provide an occasion for Cambridge University Press and the University of Cambridge to join in commemorating the books, people, ideas and achievements that have emerged from this shared history and which continue to inspire and transform the world.

Today, Cambridge University Press’s mission remains to further the University of Cambridge’s objective of advancing learning, knowledge and research worldwide.

Cambridge University Press’s success lies in its commitment to innovation and enterprise, placing the business at the cutting edge of electronic delivery. As well as this, Cambridge University Press maintains a reputation for high quality products across a wide range of publishing, from English Language Teaching materials, through textbooks and e-resources, to research journals.

With branches, offices and agents throughout the world, Cambridge University Press draws on around 36,000 authors from 122 different countries, and can market and distribute material to readers everywhere. Chief Executive Stephen Bourne says: “This is a special year for us here at Cambridge University Press, as it means we have been in continuous operation for 425 years, which is an amazing achievement. “In marking this special date we want to celebrate our past and current achievements, as well as looking to the future. We have an illustrious past in publishing academic books, research and teaching materials. However, the digital age offers us extraordinary opportunities and we will continue to see more growth and diversity as we publish in new formats and media.” The event would be held at The Ballroom, Raffles Hotel, 1 Beach Road, Singapore 189673 on 19 March 2009 from 6.15pm to 9.00pm.
