For a better future: Colouring moves the world! (via STAEDTLER Malaysia)
On 6th May 2010 the ‘World Kids Colouring Day’ enters its third round!

Colouring and creative design are very important for a child’s development. Nowadays however, children unfortunately seem to spend increasingly less time being actively creative.
On World Kids Colouring Day, initiated by STAEDTLER in 2008, children all over the world get together to have fun colouring while making a difference at the same time: The works of art created on 6th May can be acquired by friends and family in exchange for a small donation.
The amount raised is then passed on to support, e.g., educational projects in Columbia run by children’s rights organisation Save the Children. Their ‘Rewrite the future’ campaign focuses on securing quality education for children out of school due to war and armed conflict.
Thanks to the participation of young artists, their friends, families and schools and also our trade partners, STAEDTLER has been able to raise over 100,000 € worldwide over the course of the past two years.
Children are natural-born artists and colouring is extremely important for their development.
The universal language of art is a language understood the world over and connects children on all continents.
Theme for the World Kids Colouring Day 2010 is ‘Fairy tales and legends from around the world’ – a topic certain to unite children everywhere.
After all, who isn’t familiar with the stories of Hansel and Gretel, the enchanting Sleeping Beauty or Snow White? But what stories do children hear in other corners of the globe – like in Columbia, for example?
What are the morals behind the tales children are told and what is the difference between a fairy tale, a legend and a myth?
These questions and more are what World Kids Colouring Day 2010 is all about. As what could be more thrilling than to find out more about the values and ways of life of children from other cultures in such a fascinating and, at the same time, educational way?
Have fun colouring and fund-raising!

Together with all those who participate in the World Kids’ Colouring Day, we are able to offer security and stability to children otherwise trapped in their way of life and who have never before had any access to schooling.
With the money raised, STAEDTLER subsidiaries the world over are actively supporting a variety of educational projects for children in need.
